Vegetable-tanned. Full-grain. No synthetic coating, no corrected grain. Nothing sprayed on to seal it. You'll notice it before you see it, the deep, natural smell of leather tanned the slow way, and a surface that's warm and soft under the hand, not sealed in plastic. With use it develops a patina, the colour deepening, the surface taking on the marks of where it's been, until a year in it looks better than the day it arrived. Not despite the use. Because of it.
Dimitri grew up in Florence, in the region where this leather has been made for centuries, the same streets where the big names quietly keep their workshops.
What he saw when he moved to Australia was a gap. At one end, cheap bags made to be replaced. At the other, leather with prices that mostly pay for a logo. Nothing in between, and almost no vegetable-tanned leather anywhere.
So he started asking why the leather from his own region was so hard to find here. It outlasts coated leather, and it's tanned without the chrome and heavy metals most leather relies on. The answer, most of the time, wasn't what's better. It was what's easier.
So he brought the classic pieces he believed in, using the leather he trusted, and added designs as he came to understand how Australians travel and work. That first bag, the Munich briefcase, is still in the range today. Unchanged, because we haven't found a reason to change it.
